Jimmy Winston

Jimmy Winston, born James Winston in 1945, is a British musician best known as the original keyboardist for the rock band The Small Faces. Emerging in the mid-1960s, The Small Faces were pivotal in the mod scene and contributed significantly to the British rock and pop landscape. Winston played on the band's early hits, including "Whatcha Gonna Do About It" and "Sha-La-La-La-Lee." His energetic performances and vibrant stage presence helped shape the band's identity. Winston left The Small Faces in 1967 and was replaced by Ian McLagan, after which he joined other musical projects, including the band The Jimmy Winston Set and later worked as a session musician. His impact is particularly noted in the context of the 1960s British rock explosion, where bands like The Small Faces helped pave the way for future artists in the genres of mod revival and psychedelic rock. Winston's legacy is reflected in the continued appreciation for The Small Faces' music, which remains celebrated for its innovation and cultural significance.
